Cookie Policy

Pedagy uses only the cookies strictly necessary to keep you logged in and the platform functioning. We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.

Effective: 1 January 2025 No advertising cookies No third-party tracking
Version 1.0 — Effective 1 January 2025
Simple summary: Pedagy only uses one session cookie to keep you logged in. No trackers. No advertising. No analytics cookies sent to third parties. Your browsing stays private.

What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, remember your preferences, and in some cases track your behaviour across websites.

Cookies can be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (remain on your device for a set period). They can be set by the website itself (first-party cookies) or by third-party services embedded in the website.

Cookies We Use

Pedagy sets only the following cookies:

Cookie NameTypePurposeDuration
PHPSESSID Session (strictly necessary) Maintains your logged-in state while you use the platform. Without this cookie, you would be logged out on every page load. Deleted when browser is closed or on logout

This cookie contains only a random session identifier. It does not contain your personal information, and the information associated with the session (your identity) is stored securely on our server, not in the cookie itself.

What We Do Not Use

  • Analytics cookies — We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Hotjar, or any other third-party analytics service that places cookies on your device.
  • Advertising cookies — We do not use Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, or any other advertising technology.
  • Social media cookies — We do not embed social media widgets (Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn) that set their own cookies.
  • Persistent tracking cookies — We do not set any cookies that persist beyond your browser session, except where you select "remember me" functionality (if available).
  • Fingerprinting — We do not use browser fingerprinting or any other stateless tracking technique.

Third-Party Cookies

Pedagy does not embed third-party widgets, frames, or scripts that would set cookies on your device from third parties, with the following exceptions:

  • Google Fonts: The platform loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Google may set a cookie or log your IP address when fonts are loaded. This is a known and documented behaviour of Google Fonts. You can prevent this by using a browser extension that blocks Google Fonts requests, or by using a browser with enhanced privacy settings.
  • Font Awesome: We load icons from Font Awesome's CDN. Like Google Fonts, a connection is made to their server when the page loads. Font Awesome does not set tracking cookies.
We are evaluating hosting these font assets locally on our own servers to eliminate these third-party connections entirely. This will be implemented in a future update.

Managing and Disabling Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View which cookies are set on your device;
  • Block all cookies or cookies from specific websites;
  • Delete cookies that have already been set.

Instructions for common browsers:

BrowserCookie Settings
Google ChromeSettings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
Mozilla FirefoxSettings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
SafariPreferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Microsoft EdgeSettings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Note: If you block or delete the PHPSESSID session cookie, you will not be able to remain logged in to Pedagy. The platform requires this cookie to function.

Because Pedagy uses only strictly necessary cookies, we are not required under South African law (POPIA) or the ECT Act to obtain your explicit consent before setting these cookies. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent requirements as they are essential for the service to function.

We do not display a cookie consent banner because there is nothing requiring your consent. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies, we will update this policy and implement a proper consent mechanism before doing so.
